Tetris. The be all, end all, classic puzzle game known the whole world over. Japanese gamer Jin8 (a.k.a TGM HOLiC) The be all, end all, best Tetris player most likely not known the whole world over — and such a mighty shame too.

This prodigy of multi-colored block elimination, is amazing skilled with a god-like precision that’s instantly eye gluing. Oh a non-believer I see? Okay then, be prepared for your minds to be cleared away like the rows of blocks in this YouTube video of Jin8 playing a round of Tetris: The Grand Master 3.

The particular Tetris title above is actually from a series of arcade games created by Japanese developer Arika (Street Fighter EX, Endless Ocean) — which brainstormed new mechanics to be later used in all Tetris games going forward like Tetris 64 & Tetris Party: Deluxe.

But that’s way besides the overall point and what I really should be saying is — Great ghost of Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov! That was totally wicked!

Hmm… you know I can think of only one such way for a person to become so impressively good at Tetris. Unfortunately it requires an answer that’s super non-PG and well below my journalistic integrity (right hand + lots of time in the bathroom = you know the rest don’t make me spell it out!)

I should also point out in the YouTube video above that they call this certain playstyle, Invisible Tetris. Obviously because blocks randomly appear so fast on the playing field that they seem to be magically hidden by the naked eye upon first sight. Speaking of first sight — these beautiful Nintendo 3DS skins from DecalGirl will steal yours with their awesome looks!

Ah, Halloween — the perfect time of year where anytime is a good time for candy, scaring unsuspecting folks is part of the fun, and goofy costumes are acceptable, if not required attire.

Some adults think that dressing up is child’s play (they’re also stupid), but it’s great to see when people stick out their tongues at such pompous notions and go with the Halloween flow. They even get super creative and make such stupendous costumes.

This costume, by Irene Stone with her canine companion Buster, is not only super creative, but also super nostalgic of the days where TVs had rabbit ears, video games came in 8-bit, and you had to change the channel to 3 just to play. (Days gone bye, indeed. I don’t think I was even born yet.)

Irene designed a TV costume displaying the world’s favorite block puzzle game Tetris, and for added impressiveness designed a NES controller outfit for her little furry buddy. Come on, everyone say it all together: “D’awww…”

From her pictures, it seems Irene hand made the TV portion of her costume out of a cardboard box, painted a TV with Tetris playing on the screen, and then added movable block-piece stickers to arrange in any manner she seemed fit.

Meanwhile Buster’s NES controller costume looks to be made out of fabric, possibly felt, and has a black-looking cord as a leash to complete the ensemble.

Simply put, what an incredibly done costume. I hope Irene got the most candy this year at her Halloween shindig, because she and her cute mini comrade totally deserve it.

Also deserving of some praise is this Samus arm cannon built by a kid and his Dad, and this fantastic train celebrating 25 years of Super Mario Bros.

Continue Reading on Walyou]]> Nintendo has recently announced their intention to introduce a Tetris game that is specially designed for the Wii and Nintendo DS. The game is a result of a joint venture between Tetris Online Inc. and Majesco. 

In my opinion, this is one of the best things that could happen to the Wii (and the DS). Tetris is not only an incredibly popular game, but its one of the best mindless games that are around. You don’t have to remember a host of different commands and you most definitely don’t have to think too much to play the game.

Although there is much speculation about the kind of Tetris game that will be introduced into the Wii and the DS, nobody really has much of an idea. I’m sure it will be really innovative like all other Nintendo games have been in the past. Maybe along the lines of Tetris Friends? Maybe it will have a fancy interface like in Tetris Party or Tetris Splash. Who knows? All I can say is that it will most definitely be worth it. The new game is all set to launch in the spring of 2010 in North America, and it will probably take a little longer to get to other countries around the world.

I predict that this will be one of the more popular buys, especially if its on the wii, I’m sure it will be super duper fun. Keep watching out for more information on the game.
